CASE STUDY

Indian Center, Inc. is a 501(c) non-profit urban Indian Community Center which provides services to eligible Nebraskans of all cultures. ICI provide Native American employment services; housing services; youth programs and recreation; emergency food pantry; case management and commodities.

The Indian Center’s Nebraska Indian Online One Stop Program used a web portal as an innovative means of combating the pervasive unemployment facing the highly dispersed Native American population in Nebraska. The oversight of the NIOOS portal is the responsibility of the NIOOS staff in partnership with the four Nebraska tribes – Omaha, Ponca, Santee Sioux, and Winnebago – in addition the NIOOS advisory committee is made up of representatives from the four tribes and experts in workforce development.

WhettStone provided the hosting and development services to create a comprehensive web portal, the Nebraska Indian Online One Stop, provides employment assistance, assessment, and linkage to key resources.

NIOOS is servicing 91 of 93 counties.
